C Street SW Closure Project
Welcome to the District Department of Transportation's (DDOT) website for the Closing of C Street SW project. This website is created to inform and update stakeholders and the general public of construction activity and any changes in the construction schedule. For information on project updates see Progress Reports.
The Closing of C Street SW project involves infrastructure improvements to enhance the roadways as well as improve and update streetscapes surrounding the upcoming American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, a two-acre site at Washington Avenue and Second Street, SW.
The project work zone includes C Street SW from Washington Avenue to Second Street, Washington Avenue from Independence Avenue to first Street, and Second Street from Washington Avenue to D Street SW.
Construction activity consists of repair of the existing ashpalt and concrete pavement; upgrades to the sidewalks, curbs and gutters; construction of wheelchair and bicycle ramps; and the closing of C Street SW. All planned activities are projected to take DDOT's contractor approximately 8 months to complete.
DDOT is making concerted efforts to minimize or avoid disruptions in the day-to-day activities of citizens directly and indirectly impacted by the construction activity. For more information please review the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
